This is one of the most rvenerated Orthodox Christian icons of the Mother of God. Tradition tells of several versions of this image from the rescue heretics iconoclasts in the IX century. Miraculously, she came to Mount Athos monastery in Georgia. There she was placed in the Gate Church and became known as Portaitissa (Vratarnitsa). Our Lady through this wonderful image produced many wonders, after which many pilgrims from around the world flocked to the monastery. Copies of the Iberian Icon of the Mother began to disperse throughout the Orthodox world. Queen of Heaven do not cease to make wonders and help all those who in faith and pure heart pray before this image.
