Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary - is the great Orthodox holiday, which is celebrated on 14 October. I installed it in honor of Andrew Simpleton phenomenon - the saint, of Slavic origin, who lived in the capital of the Byzantine Empire - Constantinople, the Mother of God. It happened in the Blachernae church, which was located near the Imperial Palace, and which kept a robe of Our Lady.
Times were hard. Constantinople threatened enemy hordes. One day, the people, together with the governor, gathered in the temple, and prayed to God to save them from disaster. St. Andrew Simpleton at that moment I saw the Blessed Virgin, which is high in the air passed through the royal doors of the temple, accompanied by John the Baptist and John the Evangelist and other Saints who sang solemnly and followed the Mother of God in shining garments. Before the altar of the Immaculate took off omophorion (top plate) and stretched it over the praying, as a sign of her special protection.
The enemy quickly retreated, and Christians since this festival is celebrated.
