St. George was born to a wealthy family in the city of Beirut (capital of modern Lebanon), which was under the authority of Rome at that time. Very young, he enlisted in the army, and very soon achieved great success, receiving the title of senior centurion of the Roman legion. George was smart, beautiful and very strong physically.
When the boy was 20 years old, his parents died, leaving him a large fortune. He has nothing there was no need. However, when a wave of so-called Great persecution from the pagan emperor of Rome Deoklitiana, courage and faith of Christians as he was struck that he declared himself a Christian, gave his possessions to the poor, and the emperor himself accused of cruelty and inhumanity.
During that George was thrown into prison and later put to severe torture, a young man who patiently endured until his pious death - he cut off his head with the sword. It happened in the year 303.
Even after his death, Saint George was a rider on a horse to residents of the city, after which there were numerous legends and traditions of the Holy Great Martyr.
