Saint Valery lived in the late 3rd century in Armenia Melitina city, which is the time was ruled by the Roman Empire. Rules then Caesar Diocletian, who organized a wave of persecution against Christians, including the territory of Armenia.
In Melitina arrived two imperial recruits, who were ordered to be written in an army of men and boys into the service. Among the recruits he turned and Valery. As it turned out, the army has been collected in order to carry out the massacre of Christians. Learning of this, Valery and of the other soldiers who also believe in Christ, have refused to perform criminal orders. For this he and another 32 soldiers arrested and tortured.
In the year 298 St Valery and his companions were martyred. Their bodies were secretly buried by Christians.
