abbot of the Earth was born near the Russian Rostov Boyar with a noble family. Bartholomew's parents named him after one of the twelve apostles of Christ. From an early age the boy shows commitment to asceticism, adhering to fasting and abstinence, as well as showing zeal in the study of science and the teachings of the holy fathers.
Later, because of the Tatar invasions and the pressure of rival princes, Father Bartholomew, together with the whole family moved from the rich Rostov to Radonezh modest. From there, after the death of his parents, still quite young Bartholomew, who was not more than 20 years, he went along with his older brother Stefan to seek secluded places, there to build his cell and begin the monastic life. This is the place they found on the forest hill called Makovec. It was built keliya, and then a small wooden church, which was dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Thus was born the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
Soon Stephan left his brother because of the harsh conditions of life in the wilderness, and went to the Monastery of the Epiphany in Moscow, and Bartholomew, and was received by abbot Mitrofan monastic vows under the name of Sergius. The future abbot of the Earth Russian at that time was no more than 23 years. Over time, a holy deed Sergius began to bear fruit. Beside him began to settle other brothers, hungry for salvation, and the monastic life. Despite the difficulties, hunger and deprivation, the monastic community grew and matured.
Over time, St. Sergius founded several monasteries, where he staged his disciples abbots. Those, in turn, became the founders of no less than forty monasteries, and their receivers founded fifty monasteries. Most of the students of St. Sergius Church was glorified among the saints. This fact only approximately reflect the enormous impact of St. Sergius of the spiritual blossoming in Russia.
