Saint Panteleimon - one of the most popular saints of Christianity, which is revered as a healer of spiritual and physical illnesses.
He was born in Nicomedia - rich city, which at the time was the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. Pantaleon was the son of a pagan father and a mother who adopted Christianity. It was she who taught their child the basics of the Orthodox faith. In adolescence, after the sudden death of his mother, Panteleimon was sent to study to the famous doctor in the locality. The ability of the young man drew the attention of the reigning Emperor Maximian, and the Christian priest Ermolai, which opened before the young man, the full depth of the Orthodox faith.
Panteleimon earnestly believed in Christ and became free to help people with what possessed - the art of healing. Most other urban doctors, who were Gentiles, lost their income and wrote a denunciation to the emperor. There was a trial in which St. Panteleimon heal terminally ill person, while the pagan healers could not do it. After such shame paganism, on order of the emperor, Panteleimon was betrayed chrede torture and martyrdom.
Fair Head Holy healer is currently in Panteleimon Monastery on Mount Athos, and the Great Martyr is revered as the patron of doctors and soldiers.
