The original of the icon of the Mother of God Seven was found in the 19th century in the town of Vologda by a peasant who found it on the church bell. After a time when the epidemic of cholera broke out in the city, many people were healed before prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos. She began to be revered as a miraculous.
Unfortunately, after the revolution of 1917, she disappeared from the church of St. John the Evangelist, where she was kept, and since then her whereabouts are unknown.
On the icon of God the Mother is depicted without the infant of Christ. In her chest seven arrows (swords) are drawn, symbolizing war, hatred, troubles, diseases and other misfortunes, which the Blessed reflects with her prayers. The plot of this icon echoes with another well-known image of the Mother of God, the softening of evil hearts, which also depicts seven swords. At the same time, the iconographic meaning of both icons is the same - the Most Holy Theotokos prays to the world, to deliverance from enmity, from human cruelty.
