Saint Spyridon was born in a small settlement of Ascia on the Greek island of Cyprus, which was then under Roman rule. From childhood he was a meek and godly child. He was engaged in grazing sheep, prayed a lot. When Spiridon grew, his benefactors only increased. He helped the needy, fed the hungry, gave shelter to the homeless.
