Saint Spyridon was born in a small settlement of Ascia on the Greek island of Cyprus, which was then under Roman rule. From childhood he was a meek and godly child. He was engaged in grazing sheep, prayed a lot. When Spiridon grew, his benefactors only increased. He helped the needy, fed the hungry, gave shelter to the homeless. In this case, Spiridon completely did not think of himself as a great righteous man. Thanks to humility, the gifts of healing, exorcism and perspicacity were revealed in him.
After the reign of the first Christian emperor Constantine the Great, St. Spiridon became the first bishop in the Cypriot city of Trimifound. According to the prayers of the Holy Hierarch, the city more than once avoided drought and hunger, and his mercy and love for his neighbors increased every day. There are many evidences of miracles performed by St. Spiridon. At the same time, the bishop did not leave simple works. When it was necessary, the saint strewed bread, sheep.
St. Spyridon participated in the First Ecumenical Council, which condemned the heresy of Arianism. He was a zealous supporter of church canons and denounced those priests who interpreted the Scriptures too freely.
In old age, St. Spyridon went to the Lord. They took him to the temple, where he served in the city of Trimifounta. After some time the relics of the Prelate were transferred to Constantinople, and even later to the Greek island of Corfu, where they are resting to this day.
