The icon refers to a rather rare type of image of Our Lady without the Infant in her arms. The Virgin is depicted to the waist, with drooping eyes lowered. Her arms are crossed on her chest. In the Orthodox sense, the gesture of the crossed arms of the Mother of God on the Ostrobramian image indicates the moment immediately preceding the Incarnation of the Word of God - the time of the acceptance of the Blessed Virgin Mary by the Virgin Mary. This is the servant of the Lord, be it to me according to your word. Lk. I, 38
If we draw an analogy between the portrayed gesture of the Mother of God and the ritual that takes place during the Divine Liturgy, we can recall the gesture of crossing the priest's hands with chalices and discos during the sacred site. Such a comparison reveals yet another content aspect of the Ostrobramian image - the participation of the Virgin Mary in a mystery committed on the Cross of Atonement.
Later, the view of the icon of the Icon of the Mother of God with the unusual aureole over Her head adds another interpretation of the image. The sunny nimbus of the Virgin, between the rays of which are interspersed with stars and the moon, makes us recall the attributes of the mysterious Wife from the book of the Revelation of St. John: And there appeared in heaven a great sign: a woman clothed with the sun; Under her feet is the moon and on her head is a crown of twelve stars (Rev. 12, 1). Thus, the Mother of God of the City of Ostrobram at the same time is also a swedish wife, clothed in the sun of heavenly glory, who tirelessly prays for the Church.
