Since the days of Ancient Rus the most common and favorite kind of icons is a triptych, the middle part of which is closed. They remind the royal gates, which by tradition were part of the Christian iconostasis. Traditionally, in the middle of the triptych was Savior on the Throne, to the right - the Mother of God, to the left - Nikolai the Sinner. Such miniature folds carried with them on their garters or stored in their luggage. Old folds were made of copper, bronze, wood (Karelian birch, linden, cypress), covered with enamel, bone, decorated with jewels.
Now they are not only worn with them, but also decorate their houses and temples.

Such a fold can become a patron for the whole family, as each of the household members can pray to the saint whom he wants, which is closer and dearer to his heart .
