Icon of the Holy Martyr Alexandra
Holy Martyr Queen Alexandra of Rome, wife of the emperor Diocletian, was secretly a Christian. Seeing the firmness of faith of St. George during his torment, she decided to testify publicly about their faith in Jesus Christ. She went to the place where St. tortured. George, fell at the feet of the martyr and to all declared herself a Christian. Embittered queen Diocletian sentenced to death. St. Alexandra bravely accepted the verdict and humbly went to the place of execution, prayerfully turning his gaze to the sky. Along the way she, tired, asked the soldiers to let her get some rest. Leaning against the wall of the building, she quietly died. Her peaceful death (as recorded in the Acts of martyrdom of Saint George, composed immediately after his death) was followed on April 21 303 years old, but her memory is celebrated simultaneously with the Great Martyr George, on April 23 to the church calendar.
