August 28 Orthodox Christians celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. According to the tradition of the church, the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary or, as the people say, the Assumption belongs to the twelfth greatest holidays of the church year, during which one recalls the repose, Sunday and the glorification of the Mother of God.
According to tradition, the Virgin Mary often prayed on the Mount of Olives, the site of the demolition of her son. Once she saw the archangel Gabriel, who told her that in three days her earthly life would end. Christ waits for her in his heavenly kingdom, where she will be with him for life. In support of his words, he presented the Virgin of the branch of the paradise date tree - a symbol of incorruption and grace.
She asked not to be sad, but to rejoice over her Assumption, because in the face of her son she promised not to leave the world even after death. The Virgin commanded that her body be buried at the foot of the Mount of Olives, where her relatives are buried. Before the demise, the Mother of God expressed her desire to see all the apostles, and God accomplished a miracle: over the house there were many clouds, on which apostles gathered from different countries. They were surprised by what happened. The Blessed Virgin blessed each of the disciples of Christ and the mysterious reported that they would not see her after the Assumption by the will of the Lord.
In the day appointed by the archangel to the Mother of God and the apostles, Christ appeared with a large number of heavenly powers and prophets, wrote about it. In Gethsemane, the body of the Mother of God was buried in a cave, the entrance to which was littered with a huge stone. The apostles spent three days at the tomb. On the third day came the apostle Thomas, who could not be buried and was not given the blessing of the Mother of God. He was very upset about this. Sympathizing with Thomas, the apostles decided to open the tomb. But, throwing the stone back into the cave, they saw that the tomb was empty, only the funeral covers were in it. On the same day in the evening, during the rite of breaking bread in memory of the deceased, the apostles saw the Mother of God, who said to them: Rejoice! I'm with you forever ...
