Equal to the Apostles Emperor Constantine was a truth defender of the Christians. He forbade the persecution of them and issued an edict in 313, which proclaimed religious toleration and equality of all religions in the empire. For the first time the existence of Christianity, his devotees could openly confess and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ without fear of persecution and torture. Also, the emperor took an active part in the life of the Church, fighting against the heretics. Constantine convened the First Ecumenical Council, which was condemned by the heretical teachings of Arius. Having miraculously announcing his death, he received the sacrament of Baptism and peacefully went to the Lord. History called it the Great Church refers to as Equal.
