The icon “The Almighty Christ ” is the central image in church iconography. On it the Lord is shown as the King of all things and the Heavenly Judge. In Greek, this image is called Pantokrator, that is, the Almighty.
The image of the Almighty Savior adorns the majority of Orthodox churches, both in the form of icons, and in the form of frescoes and paintings. Most often, the Lord is depicted sitting on a throne with the Gospel in hand and a blessing gesture. You can also find such an image at the top of the domed space.
The oldest known icon of the Lord Almighty is in the Sinai Monastery and dates back to the 6th century.
