In the XIX century, this image became famous thanks to the miracles that the Mother of God performed through him. For many years, the icon was in oblivion and scolding instead of a step on the stairs of the old bell tower near the church in honor of the Apostle John the Theologian (near Vologda). Turned face to the ground, it was taken for a simple board, along which they walked, until the Mother of God appeared to the poor man and said to go and take the icon out of the staircase. After that many miracles began to come from this wonderful image. The seven arrows depicted on it that pierce the heart of the Virgin reflect the prophesy of Saint Simeon the God-bearer of sorrow and sorrow that will befall her when her Son is crucified.
