St. Theodosius of Chernigov was born in the 30 years of the 17th century Podolia (Vinnitsa region of modern Ukraine). His father was a priest.
Spiritual education he received in Kiev at the Epiphany Monastery. Already in his student years he showed a greater tendency to ascetic life. After graduating, he took monastic vows in the Kiev-Pechersk monastery. He could get a high position with the Metropolitan of Kiev, but wanting a secluded deed, asked the blessing to live in a remote monastery in Chernigov diocese, who was famous for the severity of the statute.
Later, in 1662, Theodosius became abbot of Korsun monastery near Kiev, and two years later he became abbot of the Kyiv Vydubychi monastery, which in the short term led to this flowering.
In 1688 abbot Theodosius appointed Archimandrite Chernigov Eletski Assumption Monastery, which had to be lifted from the ruins after the devastation of the Catholics. And again, in a short time St Theodosius restored the well-being of the monastery.
In 1692, St. Theodosius was consecrated in the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin in the Chernigov bishop and elevated to the rank of archbishop.
Archbishop Theodosius founded several monasteries, and built many temples. His contemporaries spoke of him as a present Svetoch Orthodox faith.
After the saint's death in 1696 his tomb there were numerous miracles and healings. At the end of the 19th century was uncovered incorrupt relics of St. Theodosius. He was canonized.
