Saint Anastasia the Recluse is revered by Orthodox Christians as an assistant in childbirth. During the Great Persecution of Christians by the Roman Emperor Deocletian, she went through many cities in Macedonia and Greece, helping the persecuted all that is possible. In Sirmium (the territory of modern Serbia), she was seized, brutally tortured and put to death. Already in a few decades, when the persecution ceased, Anastasia the Recluse was recognized as the Holy One, and in Rome in her honor a church was erected, which has survived until now.
