Holy Valentine was born in Egypt. Together with his own sister Hionia, they became victims of the Great Persecution that the Roman Emperor Maximilian had set up against Christians. Valentine and Hionia remained faithful to Christ, despite the mortal threat to their lives. They were arrested and extradited to Caesarea Palestine. There, they were tortured, forcing them to renounce the Lord, but the sisters boldly confessed their strong faith and were not afraid of torture or death.
