Valentin Voino-Yasenetsky (future Archbishop Luke) was born in the Crimea in the city of Kerch on April 27, 1877. In his youth, when he had to choose the profession, he chose medicine, because he really wanted to help the suffering people. He worked as a surgeon in Tashkent and there, Bishop Innokenty of Tashkent offered the doctor to become a priest. After three years of priestly service, Father Valentine took a monastic vows and his new name - Luke, in honor of the holy evangelist, and after some time the hieromonk was ordained bishop. After the Great Patriotic War, Archbishop Luke returned to his native Crimea, where he served as the ruling priest until his death in 1961. Archbishop Luke was ranked among the saints, and his incorrupt relics were found in 1996 and are now in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Simferopol.
