St. Timothy lived at the turn of the III-IV centuries. And was a native of a village near the city of Thebes in Egypt. He served as a reader and reading the Holy Scriptures during divine services strengthened in Christians the hope for future bliss. When the Emperor Diocletian issued the first edicts against Christians, Timothy was reported and taken prisoner. The young man stubbornly endured interrogations and then the torturers seized his wife Mavra, hoping that this would shake his faith. However, his wife also courageously suffered torment. They both gave their lives for Christ.
