The title of the Psalter was derived from the Greek word "psalo," which means slinging on strings, to play. King David first began to accompany the singing of the inspired prayers of God inspired by a musical instrument called "psaltery," similar to a harp. In the Hebrews the book of the Psalms is called "Tegillim," which means "praise." Almost in every verse of the Psalter the Church finds the reflection of the New Testament, of this or that event or thought.
