Panteleimon (+ 305) was born in Nicomedia in the family of a noble pagan and was named Pantoleon. After the baptism he was named Panteleimon.
Holy famous miracles of healing that commit during his lifetime and to this day make power given to him by the Lord. For affiliation to the forbidden in those days religion Christianity this holy endured many tortures. He was subjected to the torture where he was given to the beasts in the circus. But the wild beasts rushed to lick the feet of the saint. Thousands of spectators shouted: "Great is the Christian God" Panteleimon hastily withdrawn. The emperor Maximian ordered to cut off the head of the saint.
Currently the head of the martyr is on the Mount Athos in the Russian Panteleimon Monastery.
The Orthodox Church of St. Pantaleon is venerated as the patron of soldiers (his pagan name Pantoleon translated as "lion around"), as well as a healer which is connected with its second Christian name Pantaleon - "merciful".
