St. Victoria of Cordoba lived in the III century in the Spanish city of Cordoba and was brought up in the Christian faith.
At that time the Roman emperor Diocletian decided to destroy Christianity throughout the empire. He sent his deputy Dion to Cordoba, who cruelly persecuted Christians. When he found out about Victoria, he ordered to bring her to him immediately. He demanded from her to deny the Christian faith, and give sacrifice to the pagan gods, if she refused he threatened her with terrible torture and death. But St. Victoria boldly declared that she is ready to prove the truth of the Christian faith with her death.
St. Victoria was starved, was thrown into the fire and was drown in the river, but she remained unharmed.
Dion commanded to expose St. Victoria to the most brutal tortures. She took them courageously and continually thanked the Lord for the sufferings sent. After the torture she spat tyrant in his face, and Dion immediately was blinded. Raging with anger, he ordered to kill St. Victoria with arrows from a bow.
In the Orthodox Church, commemoration of the St. Victoria is on 30/17 November.
