In Orthodox Church there always existed as a crucifix with the image of the Lord, and without it. The cross itself is an instrument of our salvation that revered main sacred symbol of Christianity from apostolic times. In the Orthodox Church the most revered is the eight-pointed cross which is shown here on the right side. The cross is mounted on a schematic representation of the elevation the mountain that symbolizes Golgotha, the place of Christ penalty. At the base of the Cross there is a skull. According to the Christian tradition, the Lord was crucified on the place of Adam's grave. Blood dripped from the cross on the skull of the first man as if washing it from sin.
