St. Martyr. Tatiana (226) was born in Rome into a Christian family. From her youth she dedicated herselves to God and served as a deaconess, assisting in baptism of women and caring for the infirm. During the persecution of Christians under the Emperor Alexander Severus (222 -235), St. Tatiana was captured and tortured. While torturing her they tried to force her to sacrifice in the temple of Apollo. But due to the prayers of the holy there was an earthquake and it destroyed a part of the church along with the idol. The angels came to the executioners and they were affected by the vision. They fell at the feet of the saint and professed Christ, for which they were immediately executed.
After that the martyr was stripped naked and thrown into the Coliseum to be eaten by a lion. But the beast began to lick her feet and her legs were miraculously regrowned hair what covered her nakedness. They tried to burn the Holly but the flames did not touch her. Finally, by order of the emperor Tatiana was beheaded. The day of the memory of Tatiana takes place January 25.
In Russia, the St. Martyr. Tatiana is honored as the patroness of students in memory of the institution in 1755 on this day the first Russian University in Moscow.
