Catherine the Great († 1st floor. of the IVcentury) was born in Alexandria in a noble family and was brought up in pagan faith. One day together with her mother, a secret Christian, she was visited by a monk. He predicted her marriage to the heavenly Bridegroom and told about the Christian faith. On the same night Christ appeared to St. Catherine in a dream and put a beautiful ring on her finger. In the morning she saw a wonderful ring. The girl returned to the monk and was baptized.
Saint Catherine openly began to preach Christianity and she took part in a public philosophical debate during the visit of the Emperor Maximin to Alexandria. This saint was so convincing that many spectators and philosophers believed in Christ. The enraged emperor ordered to kill the Holy by hunger. But the Lord sent a dove that brought the martyr some food. Not admonition by the holy miracle the emperor ordered to wheel and then beheaded. The remains of the martyrs were delighted to Mount Sinai where her head and the left hand with a ring were discovered by the monks of the Sinai monastery.
Memory of St. Catherine is made on December 7, on November 24.
