Apostle Andrew (+ approx. '62) was from Bethsaida in Galilee. He belonged to the followers of St. John the Baptist. He was in Jordan during the baptism of Jesus Christ and believe in Him at once. It was he who told his brother the Apostle Peter about Christ.
The Gospel says that the brothers Andrew and Peter were fishermen and had families. The Lord called them when saw them fishing on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. After that ap.Andrew followed Christ everywhere. After the Ascension of Christ and the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, St. ap.Andrew went to to the North to preach the Gospel. With the preaching of Christ, he was in the northern Black Sea region, the Crimea, and in Scythia. According to the legend he came to Kiev and Novgorod lands. Then he returned to Thrace, where the future Constantinople the city of Byzantium he founded the Christian Church. His martyrdom St. ap.Andrey took on Patra where he was crucified on the cross with the letter X.
