Holy Prince Igor of Chernigov (1146) innocently suffered in the troubled times of the first feudal wars in Russia. He expiated his sin of the fratricidal war by the victim.
For two weeks only he was Grand Duke of Kiev. His cousins overthrew him and imprisoned in a chop. He fell ill in the prison. Being near death he was tonsured into the schema and left to die in Theodore monastery. But God wished the prince recovered and became a saint prayer for homeland torn apart by the war. A year later embittered people rebelled and decided to avenge a grudge against the prince-monk. The crowd broke into the temple grabbed Igor who was praying before the icon of the Mother of God. They pulled him out into the yard and torn to pieces.
When in the evening the prince's body was moved to the church, "God has shown over him the great sign": all the candles in the church lit themselves. The relics of the holy martyr rest in the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral in Chernigov. The memory of the saint is on the 2nd of october and the19th of September.
