Saint Michael the Archangel is the mightiest angel of Christ's troops, his leader, Arkhistratig. His name means "Who like a God?", as he is the mightiest and terrible enemy of the evil. It the first was up in arms against Dennitsa and his angels who rose against God overthrew them from Heaven and rose on guards of the Scripture. The great Archangel will get up a throne of the Lord nearby and will weigh kind and deeds of evil of people, watching a devil that that didn't outweigh a bowl with sins.
In Orthodox Church Saint Michael the Archangel is esteemed especially. On icons it was often represented sitting on a throne in an environment of an assembly of angels, churches and villages were devoted to it, and even one of the most ancient cities of Russia – Arkhangelsk is called. Soldiers, aiming to secure with its help, placed its images on helmets and military banners earlier, and now carry near a cross worn on the neck.
Saint Michael the Archangel is esteemed as the patron all faithful to God, fighting against the forces of evil. It protects souls died of demons and, together with the Guardian angel, accompanies them on Heaven. The special church service is devoted to Saint Michael the Archangel, one of prayers of which is placed an obrazka on the back: "Michael the Archangel ,as we have plainness at Ognezrachny's Throne, pray without ceasing for us, your slaves". Celebration on November 21 (8) and on September 19 (6).
