The Saint princess Olga equal to the apostles was the first ruler of Russia which has adopted Christianity. In 954 she was christened in Constantinople by the Byzantine patriarch Feofilakt, the emperor Konstantin Bagryanorodny became the godfather. Крестив the Russian princess, Greeks have refused to found an orthodox metropolitanate in Kiev. Then St. Olga herself became the preacher of Christianity in the Russian land. After accession to the throne of the son Svyatoslav, she began to make regular missionary trips about the country and to build Orthodox churches. Thanks to activity of the St. prince Olga, by 988, by the time of the Christianization of Kievan Rus' her grandson, St. equal to the apostles Vladimir, Christian temples and communities existed already in all Russian cities. Prp. Nestor the Chronicler called her "preflowing the Christian earth, like a dennitsa in front of the sun and like a dawn before light", that is a premessenger of arrival of the sun of Christian belief on the Russian land.
