St. Equal to the Apostles Princess Olga was the first ruler of Kievan Rus', who accepted Christianity. In 954 she was baptized in Constantinople, by the Byzantine Patriarch Theophylactus. But Greeks refused to establish Orthodox Metropolitan in Kiev, even after baptizing Russian princess. Then St. Olga decided to become a preacher of Christianity herself in the Russian land. After accession to the throne of her son Svyatoslav, she began to make regular mission trips around the country and build Orthodox churches. Due to the activities of St. Princess Olga by the time Russia was Baptised by her grandson, St. Equal to the Apostles Vladimir, Christian churches and communities already existed in all Russian cities
St. Equal to the Apostles Olga is commemorated on 24 (11) July.
