St. Xenia of Petersburg lived at the beginning of the XVIII century. Up till 26 years old, she led a normal life in her own house on Lakhtinskaya street together with her husband, Colonel Andrei Fedorovich Petrov. But everything changed with a sudden death of beloved husband, who died without repentance. St. Xenia decided to obtain heavens mercy for her husband by praying. To do this, she donated all property she got dressed in her husband’s uniform and assumed his name. Since that time, for more than 45 years Blessed Xenia of Petersburg wandered the streets at night, went to the field, and prayed there until dawn. Residents of St. Petersburg at first took her for crazy, but soon noticed that the holy wanderer has a special graceful power of healing, prophecy and assistance in everyday affairs.
When the building of a new stone church at the Smolensk cemetery began, St. Xenia began to help the workers at night by brining heaps of bricks upstairs. There, at the Smolensk cemetery, she was buried. At the grave of St. Blessed Xenia always a lot of pilgrims. Saint is very honored as a prompt assistant in every need.
