St. Victoria Kordubskaya lived in the III century in the Spanish city of Cordoba and was brought up in the Christian faith.
At that time the Roman emperor Diocletian decided to destroy Christianity throughout the empire. He sent his deputy to Cordoba Dion, who brutally persecuted Christians. Learning about Victoria, he gave orders to bring her immediately to his court and demanded the renunciation of the Christian faith, and sacrifice to the pagan gods, threatening in case of refusal terrible torture and death. But Victoria boldly declared that it was ready even his death to confirm the truth of the Christian faith.
St. Victoria starved, thrown into the blazing fire, tried to drown in the river, but she remained unharmed.
Dion commanded to expose St. Victoria particularly cruel torture. She took them with fortitude, constantly thanking the Lord for the test sent. And after the torture tyrant spat in his face, and Dion immediately became blind. In anger, devoid of light, he ordered the killing of Victoria with arrows from a bow.
In the Orthodox Church Sainte Victoria memory takes place 30/17 November.
