He lived in the second half of the III century and was bishop of Lycia, Myra, where he became famous for many miracles and his charity work. His life tells about countless miracles which he performed during his lifetime, and which still happen even today.
St. Nicholas helps sailors, travelers, merchants, students, and sick people and even resurrect. He is prayed for protection against evil forces. That's why the icons of St. Nicholas are not only in churches, but also in almost every home, and many people have small icons with them all the time.
St. Nicholas is commemorated on December 6/19 the day of his death and May 9/22 the day his relics arrived in Bari, Italy.
