The simplest ornamental motif in the form of a rhombus with a cross inside, placed on a ring, was considered sacred in pagan antiquity. He symbolized the earth and the sun. In Christianity, this ornamental image was rethought as an image of the earth enlightened by the light of the Gospel. In ancient Russia, the geometrically woven into the cell lines were also interpreted as the image of the Church, which in spiritual literature was compared with the meshes that draw the righteous into the Kingdom of Heaven.
