The nun Varvara was kelejnitsy Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, who was the elder sister of Alexandra Feodorovna. All of them are now ranked among the saints.
Elizabeth Feodorovna after the death of her husband sold all their valuables and some money founded the Martha and Mary monastery - a nunnery with a special statute, which was guided by the medical and charity work. Nun Varvara was one of the first nuns of the monastery and kelejnitsy Grand Duchess. When the Bolsheviks came to power and Elizaveta Fyodorovna was arrested, Barbara has not left it, although it had the opportunity and went for it in the link.
There, in the city Alapaevsk, the day after the shooting of the royal family, the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, her assistant Varvara and several relatives of the Romanov family were thrown alive into the pit, where they died from their injuries.
