Icon of the Blessed Virgin The unfading color first appeared on Mount Athos around the 17th century. On this edge the Virgin remains in one hand the Infant Christ, and in the other a flowering branch that symbolizes life, purity and good news. That is why the Holy Archangel Gabriel, who brought the Virgin Mary the Word of the Savior's birth, is also portrayed with such a flowering branch in his hands.
This icon does not have a classical standard, as in the case of the images of the Kazan or Vladimir icons of the Blessed Virgin. There are many different options for writing it, however, this did not affect the great popularity of this image among Orthodox Christians.
