The original image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is called Vladimirskaya is considered one of the most ancient icons in the world. It is venerated by Orthodox Christians as miraculous. In Russia, it came about 1131 as a gift from the Patriarch of Constantinople Luke to the Holy Prince Mstislav the Great, the son of Saint Vladimir Monomakh. It was originally kept in the women's monastery of Vyshgorod, not far from Kiev. After the death of Prince Mstislav, the icon was transported to Vladimir by another holy Prince Andrew Bogolyubsky. In 1395 the icon was brought to Moscow to protect Tamerlane (Timur) from the truth. According to the prayers of people to the Theotokos in front of this image, the conquerors for no apparent reason turned back and did not continue their offensive. Since then, lists from the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Vladimir have become almost the most common in Russia.
