Martyr Saint George (II-III cent.) Grew up in Cappadocia (Asia Minor) in a Christian family. Joining the Roman army, St. George for its military exploits earned the attention of Emperor Diocletian and was named one of the senior commanders. Having instructed the emperor about the persecution of Christians, George openly declared himself a Christian and deliberately left to suffer for Christ. After eight severe torture with the requirement to renounce Christ, was beheaded in 303 (304) year. George veneration as a saint soon spread throughout the empire and confirmed by many miracles.
