Saint Marina Margarita was born in Antioch in Pisidia (in Asia Minor, now Turkey). Her father was a pagan priest. From her nurse holy Marina learned about the Christian faith. At the time of Emperor Diocletian (284-305.) raised a persecution against the Christians so that many Christians were forced to hide in caves and deserts. When Marina was twelve years old, she was baptized. When her father learned about it he disowned and kicked her out of the house.
The girl began to herd sheep. A passing by governor was fascinated by the beauty of a young shepherdess and wanted to marry her. Marina did not hide that she was a Christian. He gave her into the care of a noble woman hoping that she would persuade the gierl to renounce Christ. But Marina has rejected it and refused to offer sacrifice to idols. Then she was subjected to torture public. During the terrible torture the holy earth shook and over her head an extraordinary light shone. There appeared a blue and gold dove with a crown in its beak. Struck by the miracle people began to praise God. The frightened governor immediately ordered to cut off his head and Marina and to kill all who believed in Christ. On that day, together with the Great Marina there were 15,000 people beheaded.
