Saint Spyridon was born in the small settlement of Askia on the Greek island of Cyprus, which was then under the rule of the Roman Empire. Since childhood, he was gentle and pious child. He worked herding sheep and prayed a lot. When Spiridon has grown, its benefactors only increased. He helped the needy, feeding the hungry, giving shelter to the homeless. At the same time, Spiridon quite fancied itself as a great saint. Through humility, it opened the gifts of healing, exorcism, and insight.
Once he began to reign the first Christian emperor, Constantine the Great, St. Spyridon became the first bishop in the Cypriot city Trimifunt. Through the prayers of the saint the city is not just avoiding drought and famine, and his compassion and love for others grew with each passing day. It saves a lot of evidence of the miracles that took place St. Spyridon. At the same time, the bishop did not abandon ordinary labor. When was the need to St pressed bread, sheep.
St. Spyridon participated in the First Ecumenical Council, which condemned the heresy of Arianism. He was an ardent supporter of the church canons and denounced those priests who are too loosely interpreted Scripture.
