St. Theodotus lived in the 3rd century in the city of Ankara (the capital of modern-day Turkey). Contemporaries spoke of him as a very good and compassionate man.
During the Great persecution of the Roman Empire when Caesar Diocletian rule, a large number of Christians were persecuted and executed by the authorities of Rome for their faith. St. Theodotus harbored persecuted, visited them in prison, found and buried the bodies of the martyrs. It is known that one day he pulled his forces out of the water, and gave the body the ground seven holy women who were drowned Gentiles. This learned and told authorities. St. Theodotus was seized and tortured, forcing to renounce Christ, but he never once wavered in their faith. After the brutal torture they cut off the head of the Holy Theodotus.
Theodotus name translates from Greek as given by God, so it corresponds to the Russian name of Bogdan. Therefore, St. Theodotus revered patron saint of Christians named Bogdan.
